THAM OM CAVE – QUY CHAU DISTRICT

Tham Om Cave is located in the limestone mountains of Thuan Chau commune, Quy Chau district. Tham Om had dated about 20,000 years ago. This is a beautiful cave created by nature that is very diverse, valuable in terms of archeology and is one of the most mysterious caves in Vietnam.

Tham Om in Thai language means Big Cave. Through the survey and excavation, archaeologists have discovered stone, bronze, fossil animal bones and teeth and proved that this was the residence of the ancient Vietnamese about 200,000 years ago.

This is an archaeological site that was discovered and excavated starting in 1975. The cave is located at an altitude of about 15m, the mouth of the cave is located in the northeast, located at 19.50m from the entrance of the cave. During the archaeological process, scientists found a finely crafted quartz stone tool, fossilized human teeth and many other fossilized animal bones and teeth, stone tools. Based on these evidences, archaeologists have determined that Tham Om cave dated back to about 20,000 years ago. The community of people living in Tham Om cave more than 200,000 years ago is the first and earliest modern person known in our country.

Coming to Tham Om cave, visitors seem to be traveling down the line of history to ancient times, discovering the unique culture of the ancient community for more than 200,000 years. Along with that is to admire the fine lines in the cave through the stalactites, sediments, majestic cliffs, ... Enjoy idyllic dishes from forest vegetables such as vermicelli, bamboo shoots, berries,...

Along with the annual Hang Bua festival, Tham Om becomes a tourist destination visited by many tourists.
