CHRISTMAS

Christmas (also known as Noel, Christmas) is a festival of Christians all over the world, commemorating the birth of St. Joseph, held mainly on December 25^th every year.

The celebratory customs associated with Christmas in different countries have a mixture of topics and pre-Christian, Christian and secular origins. Popular modern customs of the holiday include gift giving; complete the Advent calendar or Advent wreath; Christmas music and carols; watch drama about Christmas God; exchange Christmas cards; church service; a special meal; and displays different Christmas decorations, including Christmas trees, Christmas lights, Christmas scene, wreaths, mistletoe and holly. In addition, there are a number of characters closely related to this festival such as: Santa Claus, Father Christmas, Saint Nicholas and Christkind.

Like all regions in Vietnam, in Vinh City, Christmas is held from the night of December 24^th (the Christmas Eve) until the end of December 25^th (the main Christmas). Also like in foreign countries, Christian families, everyone pays attention to the decoration of symbols such as: Christmas tree, Advent wreath, ... to bring the whole Christmas atmosphere into the house. On the night of December 24^th, all parish churches in the area such as Nghi Phu, Cau Ram ... or each household decorate christmas crib and manger, inside there is a Statues of the Child and Statues of Mary. Around there are donkeys, Statues of the Three Kings, some angels, St. Joseph...

On this occasion, people often give each other Christmas gifts, especially young couples, besides, the children are also given gifts by Santa Claus.

In recent years, Christmas in Vinh City is one of the cultural activities not only for Christians but also attracts the participation of a large number of pagans, making the Christmas atmosphere more and more crowded and bustling.
