CO AM PAGODA - DIEN CHAU DISTRICT

Co Am, or Co Am pagoda, is located in Dien Minh commune, Dien Chau, Nghe An. This is not only the most famous spiritual scenic spot of Dien Chau district, but also as a witness of many historical ups and downs of Nghe An province in particular and Vietnam in general.

The pagoda has a history of several hundred years (since the 15th century). In the beginning, it was just a small cave on Ho Linh rock mountain called Am Son Tu, later it was restored, a prestigious town in an area. The pagoda area also marked an important event in the nation's history, which was the Le - Mac bloody battle of Quan Cong Phan Cong Tich (second rank duke) and Mac General Nguyen Quyen in the swamps under Hai Vai mountain. At the last minute, the famous Le Dynasty hero was surrounded, although he left and right, he could not escape the enemy's encirclement, most of Warrior-Captain and soldiers sacrificed.

After the land reform, the pagoda was abandoned, in 2013, Co Am pagoda was officially restored after the People's Committee of Nghe An province allowed the restoration (in 2010) with an area of 14ha with many items such as: Main hall, monk accomodation, stupas, Nhu Y cave, Quan Am cave, La - Han garden...

The main hall of Co Am Tu is located in the center of the pagoda grounds, divided into 2 storeys and designed according to the scale of a traditional Vietnamese pagoda. The upper floor is the main hall, performing daily rituals and spiritual needs of the people. In particular, in the center of the main hall is a statue of Sakyamuni made of jackfruit wood inlaid with gold over 5m high.

The pagoda's Sangha is designed in 3 storeys and divided into 3 distinct zones. La-Han Garden is located on the side of the main hall, featuring a statue of Shakyamuni with reliefs, around the Buddha platform, 18 Arhats are arranged in green stone. These statues make the scene of this place become more quiet and mysterious. In the distance is Nhu Y cave, decorated with a statue of Quan Am and a statue of Cap Co Doc.

Exploring Nhu Y cave is a great experience when visiting Co Am Tu. This is a stalactite cave created by nature thousands of years ago.

Previously, Nhu Y cave used to be a shelter for villagers and soldiers during the resistance war. Visiting Nhu Y cave, you will be surprised by the unspoiled beauty and extremely magnificent that is rarely found anywhere else.

Not only having majestic scenery, Co Am pagoda is also the place that owns the largest Quan Am statue in Nghe An. Coming to the pagoda, you will be able to see with your own eyes the unique statue of Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara (three faces facing 3 different sides) on the mountain.

In addition, every year, the pagoda also organizes many major holidays such as: the New Year's prayer ceremony, Buddha's birthday, Vu Lan's filial piety ceremony, the birthday celebration of Amitabha Buddha, the celebration of the enlightenment of Buddha Shakyamuni... attract thousands of Buddhists, People and tourists from all over the region attended.
