CHO XAM COMMUNAL HOUSE – NGHI LOC
Cho Xam communal house belongs to Kim Khe Trung village, Kim Khe commune, Kim Nguyen Canton, now Nghi Hoa commune, Nghi Loc district, Nghe An province. The relic is located in the northwest of Nghi Loc district, 15 km from Vinh city.
The communal house was built in 1841, on a high, flat mound in the east of Kim Khe Trung village. The area of the former relic includes: the south is Chua well, a temple to worship Buddha in the west, next to the temple is the church of Khong Tu and Manh Tu, a shrine to worship Nong god in the middle of the sky.
The communal house has two houses Upper Palace and Lower Palace. Experiencing many changes in history, only the Upper Palace remains. Upper Palace consists of 01 compartment & 2 gables, simple structure - four-pillar type, with 4 ironwood columns with height of 2.78m, 0.70m in diameter, the roof of the communal house is roofed with yin and yang tiles, on the top is embossed with symbol of two dragons winding opposite each other. There is a book of letters in front of the gate. Around the communal house is built a wall. At each interval, reliefs of elephants, horses and protectors are placed. In the middle of the communal house yard, there is an ancient banyan tree, which both adds to the majesty and antiquity of the communal house, and is also an indispensable element in the motif of an old village communal house: "The village Banyan tree - water well – communal house yard".
Cho Xam communal house is associated with many important events in the history of the heroic struggle of the Nghi Hoa people, especially in the period of Soviet - Nghe Tinh 1930-1931, in which the banyan tree is the evidence for the crimes of the French colonialists for the people here.
Every year, at the communal house, festivals are held: Thuong Nguyen festival on January 7th, Trung Nguyen festival on the full moon of July, Ha Nguyen festival on the full moon of December, along with many traditional games such as playing chess, wrestling, tickling, playacting, singing... creating a lively and bustling atmosphere. Unfortunately, due to many reasons, these holidays are temporarily suspended.
Cho Xam communal house was recognized as a National Historic Site by the Ministry of Culture and Information according to Decision No. 95-1998-QD/BVHTT dated January 24, 1998./.
