Tiet Thanh minh at Hau Han's grave

Hau Han's grave is located on Ro hill, Thanh Phong commune, Thanh Chuong district. Every year, at the Thanh Minh period in the third month of the lunar calendar, the people and descendants of the Phan family clan hold a very solemn ceremony. The ceremony consists of two parts: worshiping heaven and worshiping Hau Han. This is a unique cultural tradition, contributing to the unique cultural identity of the Phan family clan and Thanh Chuong district.

First of all, the descendants of the family clan and the People prepared the offerings, and set up two altars in the courtyard: the right (from the outside) is for worshiping to heaven, the left is for Hau Han.

- Worshiping heaven:

The offering includes 9 trays of five fruits, flowers, incense, and betel nut wine.

After the items are displayed, the ceremonial board performs the traditional sacrifice ceremony under the direction of the celebrant, including 2 times of wine offerings, 2 times of tea offerings, offering recitations, prayers, and praises to the merits of the gods in heaven, and at the same time bowing to the gods to bless the good weather, for the People and the family to have a prosperous and happy life.

- Worshiping Hau Han

After the heaven worship is completed, the ceremonial board moves to the rest of the courtyard to continue the Hau Han worship.

Offerings are mainly from families in various branches (including Phan Tuan, Phan Dinh, Phan Van) and from guests from all over the country, including sticky rice, chicken, pig, fruit, incense, and votive paper.

The order is similar to the heaven worship, it is only different from the content of funeral oration, here, we invite Hau Han, the ancestors, Uncle ... of the Phan family clan and god of earth and god of water ... to return to enjoy the offerings. The ritual ceremony takes place within 01 time of wine offerings, 01 time of tea offerings with a period of nearly 1 hour.

After the ritual was completed, the votive paper was burned at the grave site. The remaining offerings are brought home by the descendants of the family to enjoy.
