TRUONG BON TOURISM DESTINATION, NATIONAL HISTORICAL SITES

Truong Bon is located in My Son commune, Do Luong district, Nghe An province has become a "red address", a sacred land, a shining symbol of revolutionary heroism in the US resistance war.

In Nghe language, "Truong" is a noun that refers to dangerous places, two sides are cliffs and the middle is the way. The center of Truong Bon with a length of 5km is located on route 15A, also known as street 30. During the US resistance war, it had a particularly important strategic position, being the lifeline of traffic to support talents and material resources for the front line of the South. When American aircraft bombarded and blocked the railway, river, sea and National Highway 1A passing through Nghe An province, Truong Bon became a really important intersection.

Discovering the position of the "throat" of Truong Bon, the US imperialists continuously bombarded this route, and Truong Bon became the "fire coordinate" on 15A street. Throughout the day and night, Truong Bon never stopped the sound of bombs and bullets. With the spirit of "The road is not open, no blood and bones are spared", the cadres, soldiers and young volunteers have stuck around day and night to maintain the traffic blood vessels.

On the night of October 30th, 1968, Company 317 - young volunteers received orders to quickly clear the way for the military convoy to cross Truong Bon to the South before dawn, 8 young volunteer soldiers who were about to be discharged from the army volunteered with their comrades to the scene on duty. At 4 a.m. on October 31st, 1968, the whole unit urgently focused on leveling up the bomb craters. At 6:10 a.m., when the work was about to be completed, suddenly American planes came to bombard them. Because of keeping on duty, 14 young volunteers did not have time to withdraw to the bunker and 13/14 soldiers bravely sacrificed themselves when it was only more than 10 hours left until 0:00 on November 01st, 1968 - the time when the US Air Force stopped bombing in the entire North. 13 young volunteers including 11 girls and 2 boys died at a very young age, the youngest was 17 years old and the oldest was 22 years old. Their sacrifices have made the legend of Truong Bon.

13 soldiers of the 317th Youth Volunteer Company were forever gone, they guarded the road to never be blocked, contributing decisively to the victory on the southern battlefield, breaking the will to invade of enemy.

Truong Bon has become a symbol of the People's War, demonstrating the synergy of many forces directly participating in combat, in which young volunteers with the iron determination to " live clinging to the bridge & road, cling to the road, bravery die" has portrayed a beautiful image of the volunteer youth force, making an important contribution to protect the arterial road to the great front. To commemorate the victory of Truong Bon and pay tribute to the heroes and martyrs, to create a "red address" to educate the young generation's heroic tradition, in 2010 the People's Committee of Nghe An province approved the project to conserve, embellish the Truong Bon historical site. Together with Nghe An, Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, Ministry of Transport, many domestic and foreign agencies, units, collectives and individuals have donated and supported the construction and renovation to the relic site on an area of 217,327m2 with a total investment of 365 billion dong. The project was started on October 27th, 2010 and completed in July 2015, with many large-scale clusters of projects, extending along the legendary 15A road, in which the highlight is the big tomb area, the house to cover the graves of 13 heroes, martyrs and young volunteers who died bomb in the morning dated October 31st, 1968 at Truong Bon. The tomb is nestled on the old pine hill, where it was formerly the shelter of young volunteers. In front of the grave is the place where the American invaders fiercely attacked and also where 13 young volunteers sacrificed, forever returning to their motherland at the threshold of their dreams.

In the relic area, there is also a memorial house for heroes and martyrs who heroically sacrificed in Truong Bon; the house for traditional gallery showing true and vivid images of US resistance war of the army and people in Truong Bon; The lake harmonizes the landscape - the environment of the festival yard with many works and artifacts remembering the merits of the young soldiers who sacrificed at Truong Bon. In addition, the relic site also recovered bomb craters near the bell tower grave; large bas-relief with many finely carved motifs, recreating images of life, labor and fighting process of cadres, soldiers and young volunteers on the route; Monument to heroes and martyrs with the image of 3 incense sticks made from monolithic green stone 27m high, more than 1m in diameter. Around the memorial are 2 groups of statues, 6 legendary pillars symbolizing the fighting spirit and heroic sacrifice of the volunteer forces. Truong Bon historical relic is a colorful art and culture work, both to commemorate, remember and honor the heroes and martyrs in the US resistance war on the front of extremely arduous and fierce traffic - transportation. It is also a cultural highlight of spiritual tourism, attracting domestic and foreign tourists to visit, admire and worship. Today, Truong Bon has really become a red address, a shining landmark, and a place to educate profound revolutionary traditions for cadres and people, especially the young generation today and forever in the future.

On January 12th, 1996, the Ministry of Culture and Information (now the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) issued Decision No. 51-QD/BVHTTDL recognizing Truong Bon relic as a national historical relic.
