NGUYEN THIEP TOMB – NAM DAN DISTRICT

Tomb of Nguyen Thiep is located at the foot of Thien Nhan mountain range in Nam Kim commune, Nam Dan district, Nghe An province.

Nguyen Thiep (1723-1804), nicknamed preceptor La Son, was born in Nguyet Ao village, La Son district, Nghe An town, now known as Duc Tho district, Ha Tinh province. He was raised in a highly educated Confucian family. His inner side belonged to the lineage of First-rank doctorate second laureate  Nguyen Bat Lang (in Court feudal competition examination) in Le Than Tong dynasty. His maternal side was Nguyen family in "Truong Luu" region, a famous scholarly family "văn phái Hồng Sơn". Nguyen Thiep was famous for his wisdom, wide learning, and deep understanding.

He helped Nguyen Hue build the Phuong Hoang Trung Do citadel, then went out to help the Tay Son dynasty, acting as director of Sung Chinh Institute, specializing in translating Chinese books into Nom characters, implementing educational reform measures. At the age of 46, he resigned from his position as a mandarin and built a house to live in hiding on Thien Nhan mountain (Luc Nien citadel). His contemporaries called him preceptor La Son. Nguyen Thiep died in 1804, at the age of 81.

After he passed away, the people and descendants buried him at the foot of Thien Nhan mountain range. Nguyen Thiep's tomb has been classified as a national historical relic by  Ministry of Culture and Information (now known as Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) in Decision No. 921-QD/BT on July 20, 1994.
