THIEN NHAN MOUNTAIN AND LUC NIEN CITADEL –

NAM DAN DISTRICT

Thien Nhan Mountain is located in Nam Kim commune, Nam Dan district, Nghe An province. The mountain is located on the border between Huong Son and Duc Tho districts of Ha Tinh province and Thanh Chuong and Nam Dan districts of Nghe An province

According to historical records, in 1424, after pulling troops into Nghe An, Le Loi built on Thien Nhan mountain a stone citadel called Luc Nien citadel. The citadel is hundreds of meters long, rectangular in shape, built in the style of very solid stone grafting. From the Luc Nien citadel, the Lam Son insurgent's headquarters could observe all activities of the enemy troops in the citadel in Nghe An.

In the Thien Nhan mountain range, there is also a scenic spot called Bo Dai gully in Nam Tan commune, Nam Dan district, Nghe An province. Bo Dai gully flows into a waterfall in the north of Dong Chu mountain in Thien Nhan range.

Experiencing the harsh destruction of time, war and climatic factors, the walls of Luc Nien citadel were collapsed, mixed in with tree layers and bushes. The remaining traces of the nearly 600-year-old ancient citadel are now a series of stones erected on top of the mountain.

Thien Nhan Mountain and Luc Nien citadel were once classified as a relic and scenic spot in 1962, but because it was not managed and preserved, since then, the ancient citadel seems to have been neglected.
