PU MAT MEDICINAL GARDEN – CON CUONG DISTRICT
Coming to Pu Mat medicinal garden in Con Cuong district - Nghe An province, we can't help but be impressed with the medicinal plant growing area stretching over 07 hectares in the buffer zone of Pu Mat national park. It is the result of the arduous start-up journey that Mr. Phan Xuan Dien - an agricultural engineer with a passion for plants achieved.
After graduating from Hanoi University of Agriculture 1 Returning to work at Agriculture Division of Con Cuong district, Phan Xuan Dien still keeps his love for plants, which is reflected in many scientific works with many different plants. In 2015, struggling to find a way for himself, People's Committee of Nghe An province organized a scientific conference to develop precious medicinal plants into economic strategic crops of the province, Mr. Dien was very happy. Realizing the great potential of the terrain, climate and soil of Con Cuong district, he boldly proposed the project of planting precious medicinal plants in Con Cuong district and was approved by the Provincial People's Committee.
Thanh An Agricultural Science and Technology Joint Stock Company (later known as Pu Mat Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company) was born, the production process started to operate at the same time when the amount of work was increasing, the stress was increasing. Phan Xuan Dien at that time, who was deputy manager of district agricultural division, decided to quit his job entirely in the face of opposition from family and friends to seriously focus on his project. He believes that the need to use medicines from precious medicinal plants close to nature is a great and inevitable need of many people. Instead of many people having to order in Hanoi, Saigon or Da Lat, he wants everyone to have access to good quality products right in their own hometown. With strong faith and determination, by concrete actions, he gradually gained support and help from family and friends.
From 07 hectares of land located in the buffer zone of Pu Mat National Park - where the altitude is 800m above sea level, applying a closed high-tech production chain, carefully and meticulously from the selection of varieties, planting, and care, harvesting and processing, the medicinal products of Pu Mat Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company are evaluated to have a higher content of medicinal properties than other regions (according to the analysis and testing results of Institute of Medicinal herbs - Ministry of Health). Herbal tea products of Solanum procumbens; Gymnema sylvestre; Jiaogulan; Polyscias fruticosa; has the effect of supporting the treatment of some diseases such as diabetes, helping to lower and stabilize blood pressure, blood fat, cure boils, urticaria, itchy sores, measles, cholera, dysentery ... very popular with consumers. Currently, every day the factory produces about 300-400 boxes of tea with all kinds to sell to the market. With a retail price of 69,000 VND/box, company's monthly revenue is estimated at more than VND 300 million. It is not difficult to see the image of the company's tea bag products solemnly presented at major hotels; conferences inside and outside the province; Fairs, drugstores. He excitedly said: Some customers in Thailand; China; Japan have also contacted to sell the product. Company is currently working with Department of Health and hospitals to bring the product closer to patients soon.
With an increasingly large scale of operations, Mr. Dien's company has created jobs for many local workers. The successful model motivates local people to follow suit. With the characteristics of easy replanting, which is endowed by nature with suitable soil and climate conditions, the cultivation of medicinal plants in Con Cuong can bring about an income of about VND 100 million/ha/year for people. Hopefully medicinal plants throughout the western districts of Nghe An province in the shortest time to contribute to the transformation of crop structure, hunger eradication, poverty alleviation and job creation for thousands of laborers.
