NEW RICE FESTIVAL

Every year on May 5 (Lunar calendar), Thai ethnic people in Bong village, Thanh Son commune, Anh Son (Nghe An) hold a new rice festival. This is a traditional cultural activity held every year, to honor the grain of rice given to Muong village by heaven and earth and to thank the gods..

According to the concept of the people here, Po Pha is the ruler of heaven and earth, blessing the rain, the wind and the good harvest. Therefore, after harvesting the crops, families and clans all celebrate the new rice to express their gratitude and gratitude to Po Pha, the gods and ancestors.

The new rice festival is held by the people of Bong village at the temple located at the top of the village. Here, 6 family-clans of Thai people residing in the village (including Vi, Luong, Lo, Ha, Ngan and Lu family-clans) in turn offer offerings to Po Pha and the gods to give thanks and pray for favorable weather, good crops, healthy people... On behalf of the villagers and the family-clans, the magician sends thanks to Po Pha and the gods and prays for good things in life.

The sacrifice ceremony ended, the sound of gongs rang loudly, the festival began with many cultural activities taking place such as drinking can wine, singing and dancing, etc. …
