LAM SON PAGODA – QUYNH LUU DISTRICT

Lam Son Pagoda is located in Thuong Yen hamlet, Quynh Yen commune, Quynh Luu district, Nghe An province. According to the pedigree of the first big family-clans to settle in Quynh Yen and the elderly, Lam Son Pagoda was built in 1712, during the Le Trung Hung period.

During the resistance war, the pagoda was a place to give speeches, organize rallies, call on the people to join the resistance. Experiencing the events, ups and downs of history, the temple was demolished in the years of land reform, the sacrifices and Buddha image also gradually disappeared.

On November 8, 2012, Nghe An Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 4446/QD-UBND-NC approving the restoration of the Buddhist establishment at Lam Son Pagoda to meet the needs of religious and spiritual activities of the people and Buddhists.

Accordingly, on November 19, 2013, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 5472/QD-UBND-DTXD approving the detailed planning on construction of Lam Son pagoda with a total planned area of land of 5,482.37m2, in which, the construction area is 1,961.38m2.

Lam Son Pagoda was built in the style of "foreign domestic and foreign affairs" by artisans from Ninh Binh, this is the type of popular ancient pagoda architecture in the Northern Delta. The pagoda includes the following items: Ancestral worship space; main hall (also known as Tam Bảo - three main foundations of Buddhism); bell tower and drum tower; right and left corridor; three-way gate and other ancillary works. This project has a total cost of 50 billion VND, mobilized from socialization sources.

The frames of the works are made mainly of ironwood and Lauan mera ati wood (Madhuca pasquieri) imported from Africa with a total volume of about 1,200m3. The Ancestral worship area is made entirely of Merawan Giam wood (Dipterocarpaceae). In which, the highest wooden pillar is 7.58m, diameter of all pillars is 55cm. Buddha statues are mainly made of precious wood.

After being restored, Lam Son Pagoda has become a place of spiritual and cultural activities, a place to preserve and promote the traditions and cultural identity of the homeland. At the same time, this is also an address that contributes to raising compassion and goodwill among the People in general and among Buddhists near and far in particular. Currently, Lam Son Pagoda attracts a large number of tourists inside and outside the province to visit and worship, contributing to the development of the tourism industry in particular and the socio-economic development of Quynh Luu district, Nghe An province in general.
