HO TUNG MAU CHURCH AND GRAVE – QUYNH LUU

Ho Tung Mau Church and Grave is located in Hamlet 5, Quynh Doi Commune, Quynh Luu, Nghe An Province, with a total area of 1,500 m2. This is a place to worship and commemorate Ho Tung Mau and descendants in the family who have made great contributions to the people and country in the two wars: the French resistance and the American resistance.

Ho Tung Mau's birth name is Ho Ba Cu, born on June 15, 1896, in Quynh Doi commune, Quynh Luu district, Nghe An province, in a scholarly family with a patriotic tradition. In 1920, Ho Tung Mau went abroad, with the ambition to find the correct way to liberate the country from the colonial yoke. In 1923, in Guangzhou (China), he and Le Hong Son established Tam Tam commune (Tan Viet Youth Union).

In June 1925, under the guidance of Nguyen Ai Quoc, Ho Tung Mau, together with Le Hong Son and Le Hong Phong, gathered the most active youths and moved Tam Tam commune into a Vietnamese revolutionary youth organization. He was admitted to the Communist Youth Union (in the class of 9 first people) - which is the core organization of Vietnam's Revolutionary Youth Association (also known as the Vietnamese Revolutionary Youth Association).

During the years of participating in French Resistance, Ho Tung Mau was arrested and imprisoned many times. On March 9, 1945, Japan couped France in Indochina, Ho Tung Mau and his brothers escaped from prison, returned to their homeland after 14 years of imprisonment, and continued to enter Thua Thien Hue to participate in the uprising to seize power. When the nationwide resistance war broke out, Ho Tung Mau was nominated as Chairman of the Inter-region IV resistance administrative committee. In August 1948, he was assigned by the Government to Viet Bac to hold the position of Inspector General of the Government. In February 1951, at the Second Party Congress, Ho Tung Mau was elected to the Central Executive Committee, holding the position of Head of the Inspection Committee of the Party Central Committee. He still holds the position of Inspector General of the Government and President of the Vietnam - China Friendship Association.

While our French Resistance and American intervention was at a drastic stage, he was sent to work in Inter-region V.  Around 5 p.m on July 23, 1951, on the national Highway 1A, he had just come out of Cong market (now Tinh Gia town, Thanh Hoa province) when he was shot by a French colonial plane. He died when he was 55 years old, his corpse was taken by the Party Committee and people of Thanh Hoa and buried in Quynh Doi commune.

Ho Tung Mau church and grave are not only a place to pay tribute, to commemorate comrade Ho Tung Mau, a place of cultural activities of Ho family's descendants, Quynh Doi commune and Ho family's descendants throughout the country, but also a place for many political events. With those values, the relic was ranked as a national relic by the Ministry of Culture and Information in 2000./.
